MY friends type r all of a sudden wont go into reverse any one have any ideas on what could be wrong? all the other gears go in smooth just reverse is stuck.

 

once I broke part of my shift fork off shifting too hard.. the little piece was loose in the tranny.. reverse was the first gear I lost.. then I shook it loose and I lost first, but got back reverse... it required a complete tranny rebuild.. luckily it was covered by waranty.. whew..

 

double-cluch...or bite the bullet and just rind it in..

 

I had this same problem. It came out of the blue. I forced it in for a few days. It ground like hell, but before I could get it in a shop the problem disappeared. My ITR is a 98. That was over a year ago, and has never happened again.

 

try putting it in 1st and then going in reverse

 

Just threaten your car that you are bringing it to a shop to get fixed..Lol, cars hate shops, and always seems to get better right before going

 

or try leaving it in neutral, then putting the clutch in and out, and try again. sometimes junx needs to be moved around before it wants to engage.

 

try putting it in 2nd, then 1st, then reverse

that's what i do when my tranny gets finicky..

 

Just open the door and push the car backwards with your foot... that is what I do

could very likely be the clutch disk failing at the little springs.

Eiter way don't FORCE it you could bend the shift forks.

 

If mine doesn't go into reverse I put in first and let it role just a little bit then put in reverse. my wifes civic si does the same thing but not as often as my itr
