I found a guy who's selling an aem adj camgear and i would like to know if i can use this into my A6? Are they the same or the y8 has less or more teeth than the a6 cam gear???

 

NOPE... 88-95 cam gears are the same, 96-00 are different

 

Why can't he use??? He can compensate for the diff in timing because its adj.

 

well considering that IF its one tooth off its like 8degrees off (I dunno if the y8 gear is larger in diameter or less/more teeth) and that would DEFEAT the whole purpose of having an Adjustable GEAR.. cause doesnt it advance and retard only 10-12degrees so he has 4 degrees to play with..??? instead of 12 to play with cause he's "compensating" for it not being the right gear.

I really dont know much about timing, quite frankly i hate messing with it. So my suggestion is pay the little fee of a new one for less then $100 to avoid a headache worth $400++

Just go on EBAY or GBC and get an AEM/OBX/Skunk?whatever for ~95 shipped.

 

the 96 and up are off by 5 or 6 degrees so adjust it accordingly, but it would work.

 

if its one tooth retard then put it one tooth advance ...if you are getting it for cheap then go fo it. Remember though their is no point in having a adj gear without a timing light especially if the timing is off stock being that it is y8 gear.

Also I don't know too many people who need 10 degrees of adj
