Y8 AEM Cam Gear on Z6...
I was hopefully recieving an AEM cam gear for a Z6 but I think I accidentally got one for a Y8...will this bolt up to the Z6? I know the timing marks are probably off...but does anyone know what problems I will run into...

Re: Y8 AEM Cam Gear on Z6... (BauleyCivic)
It should bolt up okay. When I was using a Skunk2 cam gear, it was listed as applicable for all 1992-2000 Civics, and it worked without a problem on my Y8.

Should bolt up fine, but you are correct about the timing being off.
Here's a visual comparison between the 2 thanks to builthatch:

Re: (soccaian)
so the cam gears will work just timing has to be adjusted. ok. are the cams interchangable? i have a y8 head with no cam and just found a z6 cam. will these work together and if so, if i use a z6 cam gear, will the timing be right or not? i dont know these things

Re: Y8 AEM Cam Gear on Z6... (JV)
Y8 HAS 38 TEETH
Z6 HAS 40 TEETH
You're going to have big trouble with that. As first your engine will start but after a couple of revolutions your valves are going to hit the pistons. Unless you replace the crank gear with a matching one.

Oops, sorry. I just realized you'll be using a stock cam because your head has no cam in it right now. I'm not sure if the timing would still be off or not if you coupled it with a Z6 cam gear. I'm assuming it would be okay, but don't quote me on that.

Your wrong. The gears have the same number of teeth. However the key has a different off set.

no your wrong. There is are both cam gears posted, so instead of going by what you think, stop for 30 seconds and count up to 40. The top one had 38 gears, the bottom has 40.

Negative. count them.
Correct me if I am wrong, the pitch diameter of the y8 and z6 are just about the same the size, so the size of the teeth will be slightly different. The timing belt would also be different for the two types of engine. The difference would be less than a millimeter so it is not recognizable by the eye. use a vernier caliper to verify.

Dude your smoking crack. I have a stock y8 and a stock z6 cam gear in my hand. They have the same teeth!! I know they came off those engines because i removed them. They both have 38 teeth. I donno where your coming up with the z6 has 40, but your totally wrong. Both have *38*.
Look at the pictures posted above. They both have 38 too.
Ill take a picture in a few...

I think you should send it back for 2 reasons. 1: It is the wrong gear and 2: it only has 3 screws. I would never trust my timing to 3 screws. The Unorthodox one looks nice, I think it has 6.

Re: (DanW)
Yeah, there have been some reports of slippage with the AEM cam gear. My Skunk2 cam gear had six screws and worked great. Actually, my only beef with the Skunk2 cam gear was that they (Skunk2 themselves) sent it to me with a missing screw. Luckily I had an easy replacement, but it was still a little annoying.

Then that isnt a z6 cam gear. Maybe its a f22 or something. I dont know.
Im sorry about the poor quality of these pictures, i dont have my digi camera here with me. This is done with a webcam.
The *only* difference between the gears is where the tooth is. Its a few degrees off.
This is a stock d16z6 cam gear. 38 teeth. It came off my 93 civic si d16z6 stock motor.
This is a stock d16y8 cam gear. 38 teeth. Came off a 96 civic EX.
Them next to each other y8 on the left z6 on the right.
Line up perfect
SAME SIZE
<-- not crazy

Alright...so what does everyone think i should do...?
More food for thought...the B7/Z6 combo throws timing off 1/2 tooth...could I use this to my advantage?
