Default Y8 block z6 head aem cam gear problems

Hey guys my buddy has a d16y8 block hes trying to put a z6 head on it and he got the head shaved so he bought a aem cam gear to adjust the timing. He is having a problem as the aem cam gear he bought is and its differnt then the one on the z6. The z6 cam gear has 38 teeth and the aem gear has 40. If he runs it wont the timing go out of wack? Can he change the bottom gear to fix that? Any help is appreciated

The cam gear MUST have twice as many teeth as the crank timing gear has. The fact that the gear has more teeth than you counted on the stock Z6 gear means it simply will NOT work.
