can i just replace the tie rod only without having to replace the entire rack and pinion steering?
Soak the nut with some penetrating oil and then try it. If that doesn't work then heat it with a torch and try. If all else fails, then get a new inner tie rod. Also get a new retainer lock washer and boot band if replacing the inner tie rod.
u dont need to replace it if the whole unit spins, heres what u do, it may work, it may not, i hope u have air tools cause it will make it hella easy...When attempting to remove the nut, take vice grips or anything that u can apply pressure with and clamp it down on the top of the ball joint of the bolt, and the bolt should stop spinning... if u cant fit or find soemthign to clamp down, take the handle end of a screw driver and just PRESS real hard down on the top of the ball joint, and then try to loosen it, its ghetto, but works..

thanks guys but, i eventually got the nut off with an impact gun by tightening and loosening it, over and over again 'til it came off. and i replaced just the tie rod itself.
