For tune ups I usually pick up spark plugs, oil, oil filter, tranny fluid, cap , rotor, air filter(unless you have CAI, then just clean and re oil), fuel filter, some beer, and Slim Jims. I also check the timing and idle. Also check coolant.

cap and rotor is simple. you get it as a combo from autozone. i just did mine and it was like 25$ total. the cap and rotor are on the left of your engine when you are looking at it. it's the black thing that the spark plug wires plug into. i don't know what kind of car you have because you didn't mention (put it in your sig so people know) so i'll assume it's an internal coil like mine. here is what the cap and rotor is:
now, it's simple, there are 3 bolts to take it off, they are 8mm or you can use a philips head screwdriver. i suggest leaving all the plugs on the cap when you remove it, then taking them one by one off of the old cap and putting htem on the new one. that way you don't mess them up. Then, when you have that off, there is a round thing in there with a contact on one arm of it. that's your rotor. it's in this picture here, the black plastic thing:
edit: disreguard the writing in that picture, it's from another website showning how to change the ignitor. i used hte picture just to show the rotor to you. don't remove any wires.
use a flathead screwdriver and it should just pry off (some have set screws in them so feel around to see if there is a screw, if not, you juse use a flathead and gently pry it off). then you press the new one back on (there is only one way it fits) then you put the cap back on and tighten the 3 small bolts back and you're ready to go. oh ya, don't forget to use the new seal included with the cap and rotor you bought.
that's all there is. e-mail if you need more help.
