Default stripped valve cover studs

okay guys,
i have a couple stripped studs on my valve cover and since i don't trust the local acura dealership, i'd like to repair them myself. does anyone have any how-tos to help me out? any help will be greatly appreciated.

remove the valve cover and then remove the "studs" - 10 or 12mm deep socket (cant remember which) needed to remove the "stud" bolts - then replace with new ones - put the valve cover back on and this time dont use the 250ft/lbs impact to tighten the nuts down...

would it be the stud or the head itself that is stripped? it just seems that the aluminum head would give way before the stud...

i was assuming he stripped the threads on the "stud" - the "stud" he is refering to is actually a bolt that is threaded on both ends - one end goes into the head and the other gets the valve cover nut screwed onto it...

i understand what the stud looks like, however, i haven't actually pulled the valve cover off yet -- i know that something is stripped, i'm just not sure if it's the stud or the head itself. it seems to me, that since aluminum is weaker than steel (i'm assuming the stud is steel) the head would give way before the stud. what do you think is most likely stripped?

studs are designed to go before the head threads.

i believe its the threaded part of the stud...just take off the valve cover as stated get a 10 mm deep stocket and use a breker bar for leverage cuz my weak *** couldnt get it off without it..dont try to use an open wrench itll just strip the stud...replace and be verrrryyy careful tigtening the valve cover down... i believe the longer studs were about 5 bucks each and the nut which i doubt youll be able to take off the stripped part was about 3 bucks! but do what i did..go down to your local hardware store and ask for accorn nuts...i fergot the pitch size but just bring thenew stud in before u start werking on it...the nuts costed about 10 cents a piece...

It is probably easier to just buy a new one then fix the threads on the striped one.

I suggest http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.net

This is the link to the right page, I think the link will work.

It's number 18 you are talking about I assume? only $2.75 a pop, not too bad. Good luck, should be easy
