Heater turns off by itself
Thing has a mind of its own I tell ya. I'll be driving, and the heat will just simply stop coming out, no air, nothing blowing out.......NOTHING. I can put it on whatever setting I want and nothing will come out. Now, out of nowhere it'll come on again. It does this when it feels like it, I'm not doing anything special for it to happen (i.e. braking, giving it gas, et cetera). I'm thinking there is a bad ground or fuse or something of that nature, possibly the blower/fan? >dunno<
Some help would be great!
Thanks

You have a "blocked heater core". Whoever had the car before you rarely turned on the heat to cycle the coolant the heater draws heat from. It's got a bunch of crap and/or corossion that is now effectively blocking circulation. Sometimes, alittle coolant will circulate though...
Can't really think of any fix beyond replacing the unit.
Edit: i just reread your thread...just noticed 'no air comes out'. You mean it compeltely shuts off? Does it do it with the a/c too?

That's correct, no air comes out at all. Heat, A/C....even on vent where it lets outside air to come in, doesn't blow anything out. It'll be on full blast #4, and will just stop coming out, then out of nowhere it'll start coming out again. Like I said, I am not doing anything in particular at the time for it to stop.
It's still better than the heat in your VW though
sounds like an intermitant electrical problem. the fan motor isn't getting power for whatever reason. start checking wires and relays.

This kind of thing always happens in my Hondas when its 110 degrees outside and I am trying to run the AC. I'm not an expert, but the dealership always ended up replacing the blower motor in my cars. Always presented this way before completely dying and was always fixed with a new blower motor.
Like I said I am no expert, just my two cents. Suggestions provided may be right on or less extreme fixes.

When the Air stops coming out, you need to see if the fan quit, or not. If it did(And it sounds like that is the case) Then most likely...power to the blower was interrupted or the motor is no good.
