hey guys, ive got a 98 gsr and i took the power steering belt off about 3 or 4 months ago (im posting in here cause i know you guys disconnect your p/s more than the regular integra guys). my car never made any noise when i was turning or anything for awhile, then i got into a really small accident, i wasnt even going over 5mph but there was a decent amount of body damage cause my cars lowerd and it went under the other car when i rear ended him. basicaly my problem is this, after i got the car back from the shop i noticed a few days later that when im not moving too fast and i turn the wheel the car will make these noises, almost like i guess you could say a humming noise, i can feel it through the wheel too. what do you guys think it is? you think if i put the belt back on it will go away? should i flush out the p/s fluid and put some more in? any help will be aprecaited. sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance

 

I used to have a 99 Gsr and I remember it made the noise you are talking about after about a year of owning it, and it had the power steering. I took it to the Acura dealer because it was still under warranty and they told me others had the same problem. He said that they didn't put enough grease at the lower part of the steering column from the factory, so after awhile it would dry up and start making noises when you turn the wheel. They just put more grease at the base of the steering column and that was it. The noise went away for awhile but It came back later on.

 

what kind of grease did he put, or what kind should i use? and which part of the steering column, can i reach it from inside my car? thanks alot

 

yeah, you do it from the inside of the car. I guess you just put some grease at the base of the steering column. Not sure what kind of grease though.

i got that from the thread that was posted for me to look at. you guys think thats what ive got to do to get rid of this noise? one last question, could you guys tell me where the steering joint cover is located? if someone could take a pic and post it id really apreciate it. thanks for all the help

From what the dealer told me there were alot of other integras with the same problem. I don't think it is a common problem, just on some of the newer integras.
