are short shifters worth getting?
i really like my skunk2 ss. i have the ss with the skunk2 **** and the feel with that combo is amazing. i would highly recommend this set up.
I wouldn't think so. My Del Sol shifter sits lower and seems to have a somewhat shorter throw than others. I know Honda 3rd gear synchro's are notorious for wearing and I hear that short shifters may add to that wearing. So I hear.....

Just because a shifter sits lower does not make it a short shifter, and short shifters do not cause synchro damage.
As far as synchro's go..... that is why I put that "hear" at the end, the sychro's wear from being made of a softer metal and usage- some people "say" that when you have a short shifter you are giving the transmission less time to actually catch between shift and this can put excessive stress on the synchro's. Can anyone prove it?- hell I dont know, many people use them with no problems. But I do have friends that have had problems that didn't incur until after installing a short shifter. Hence the "so I hear" part, just trying to throw in some different angles to answer this guys ?.....
Sorry for not clarifying my thoughts and information the 1st time

I got one for free with some bushings I bought off a guy... and it's pretty cool actually. It just makes the shift's feel more precise and quick.
It does nothing for performance, and mine isn't any harder on the transmission.
as far as breaking one.... how in gods name are you shifting... I can't imagine putting enough force on my shifter to break it if it were made of wood much less aluminum... There is NO reason to be putting any kind of force on a shifter during shifts. the harder you yank it or the more pressure you put on it after it's already in gear is just pointless and will eventually cause problems... whether it be synchros from yanking it in to gear faster than it wants to go or loose linkage from all the stress. Either way you should not be breaking shifters regardless of what they're made of.

If you have extra money to spend then get one... you are not going to better your quarter mile time by much...if thats what you are looking for...
mostly for feel purposes...
In my opinion, save your money to buy some other performance products fuel pressure regulator...etc etc....
My bro had one in his car..91 hatch....it tore his tranny up....
took it out and he's happy with the stock one...
It I were you..i would not get one....

yes, if u got the $$..dont get aluminum
as for the tranny problems, dont SMASH it into gear...even with a stock shifter if u smash and bash it into gear all the time it will mezz up your gears yo
