Default Removing A/C Question

Ok, I know this is a simple thing to remove. I was curious as to how you drain the Freon(sp?) and how much Freon is actually in the A/C. Also, are there any other tricks that I should know before I try to do this? Thanks in advance

If you have the older freon A/C then I wouldn't reccomend venting it. It's illegal. If its an R134a system then you can because they're supposed to be harmless (still illegal I think). I removed the complete A/C on my Integra, I vented it at the "heater core" the thing that looks like a soda can. It had to vent for a couple of minutes becasue I didnt open it that much. But if you have freon just take it to a Jiffy Lube and they can drain it for a couple of bucks.

You want the real way to remove the Freon or do you want the ghetto-driveway removal way?

Real way: go to a certified A/C technician and have him use the machine that literally sucks your A/C system dry of any Freon. Takes about 5 minutes if that.

Ghetto-driveway removal way: take off those two plugs that are on the ends of your A/C line where it connects to the condensor (plugs should be black and they screw off). Get a small screwdriver and stab those little prongs and bend them so they remain open. After you do this, go inside a drink a and then another cause sometimes this can take a while, other times it comes out quick...

If you do it the ghetto way, do NOT breathe in the Freon fumes, they aren't good for you!

Don't bend anything. Just like letting the air out of a tire, push the little prong thing down and let the a/c out. Put a towel over the vent and then use the screwdriver. Once all the pressure and everything is out, just start un bolting everything.
Make sure to cover up the ends with tape or something so that you can reuse this or sell the parts. Don't want to get moisture or anything in the lines.

and be sure you are in a well vented garage with all doors/windows open if possible. if you use the ghetto method... sounds like the safe method is better cause if they suck it all out, there is no moisture left behind to corrode anything

Besides the A/C fan what else is there to remove? Compressor?

I'm thinking about ditching my A/C in the 93 Cx when i do my GSR swap.....

take out the compressor, all connecting hoses and line, and the solenoid that works the AC unless your not going to use it again.
