VSS = Vechicle Speed Sensor. It drives your speedometer/odometer and is found in both the 5spd/auto. Umm...A gear-set drives the VSS, but I doubt that is the problem. If it did, then you'd have blown your transmission or something, lol. Or atleast have some funky noises. I'd replace the VSS...

The VSS is part of the speed sensitive power steering system. There is a small pinon gear on the end of the VSS shaft that meshes with a gear in the tranny. What exactly did you do to test your VSS? Are you having problems with your power steering at all? Let me know, and I can look up the Helm's troubleshooting sequence for you.
hey bud im in the same boat as you, i went through all the tests in my helms and it said it was definately the VSS, i got a known working one put it in and still didnt work, so i took the VSS out and put my finger in the tranny and guess what, the speedo gear on the differential spins freely, any ways i now am saving for a quaife, cause as long as i have that tranny apart why not make it better right?
