Engine rebuild suggestions
Hey I have a 1992 Honda Accord LX. It has the 2.2 liter non-vtec engine. I am planning on rebuilding the engine cause it has 160,000 miles on it and i wouldnt mind beefin it up a little. I heard u can put a vtech head on the engine but was not sure of it. Also, what type of pistons, camshaft, etc.. would u recomend in order to do a good reliable rebuild, without having to put racing fuel in the car and worry about skrewin up transmissions.

It is largely agreed upon that putting a VTEC ( not vtech) head on a non vtec F22 is not cost effective. You would be better swapping the engine out for a VTEC model or an H22a. The DOHC VTEC engine from a prelude drops right in. A cheaper alternative to the H22A would be an H23A DOHC non vtec. More power than you engine and pretty cheap too. Probably cheaper than rebuilding your engine when it's all said and done. Use the search feature in the upper right hand corner and you will find tons of info on these engines, swaps, and performance modifications in general.
your f22b2 can easily be rebuilt...in my opinion, vtec is not worth your time on an sohc motor...if you want vtec, just swap motors...since you are rebuilding the motor though, you can build it for a certain purpose, BOOST!...even if you don't get a turbo kit right now, building the motor leaves it as an option later on...but you can do something like this...just replace the pistons and rings for brand new oem ones, and either get new oem rods, or aftermarket ones like crower, depending on your plans....after that, you need to build the head (which will have to be extensively cleaned after that many miles, carbon deposits will be everywhere)...i suggest that you get the cam custom ground for a turbo application...gude is not a good bet for a turbo cam....after that, just get new, oem valve springs and retainers...the valves you have are probably ok, but you can replace them if you really want...after all this work, you can do a PP on the intake side to allow more air into the engine as well...put it all back together, and you will have a motor that is ready for boost....good luck man...(by the way...a turbo is the only way to get real power out of the f22's...good luck)
