Default clutch problems on 94 si *sigh*

I've searched within h/t.com and i haven't really found anything pertaining to my post.

well i have a '94 si, with 137k miles on it. i bought the car with around 135k. the previous owner informed me that he replaced the clutch a year or 2 ago, so probably there has been 15k-25k miles of use on it. however i think that either he beat the **** outta the clutch or it was installed improperly.

the problem i've been having is that my car engages fine, but i think the clutch is worn. let's say i'm cruising in 5th gear around 65 mph, and if i floor it, the tach moves rather quickly. so from 3600 rpm, it moves to 4600 rpm then comes back down to like 3700/3800 rpm, then the rpm's climb naturally. this occurs in every gear. i always tried to do a hard launch the other day, where i revved to around 4k, and feathered out the clutch. normally i would get wheelspin but i got none whatsoever. all i did was just accelerate at a slower than usual speed and the revs just shot to 6800.

so do you think my clutch is worn out?

definately sounds like it. I reccommend an ACT heavy plate/street disc, unless you plan on making over 200WHP, then get the Xtreme plate

either he lied to me, or he just didn't tell me the whole truth..maybe like he beat the **** outta the car.

anyway, my car is basically stock, so i think i'll just replace the clutch assembly with OEM parts.

armharm, i see that you're located in Glendale, CA? cool me too

OEM is a good way to go if you don't plan to race or anything. If you do decide to go genuine Honda, PM me, I can get you the best price around. Unfortunately you live in CA so shipping will get you.

after reading the symptons i've talked about, could anybody gimme an idea of how much life i have left on my clutch?

also, how much would the OEM be around? if i do go in the shop to get the clutch work done, would it be a complete job as in replacing everthing from the master cynlinder, flywheel, pressure plate, throwout bearing, etc?

thanks in advance

I made them up, just now, sitting at my desk. LOL. I am parts manager at a Honda dealership, I can adjust prices as I see fit. I try to help out fellow members when I can. Let me know if you need anything else.

armharm, my car looks exactly like yours, 'cept i cleared out the turn signals in the front .

anyway, the slippage problem i have when accelerating, it stopped. however this is the 3rd time this has happened, where it feels like it's going, then all of a sudden it drives fine. i've taken it to the mechanic the 2nd time it happened, and he coudln't find anything wrong with it. (he didn't open up the transmission to check for sure)

it's the sparse nature of the clutch that worries me.
