Q About VTEC Engagement
Hey guys and girls,
Aside from RPM, are there any other factors that dictate whether VTEC is engaged (e.g. temp)?
When I took my ITR out for a spin at lunch, I swear the VTEC failed to turn on once. Next time I tried, the VTEC engaged. Just want to make sure!
Thanks.

Well, it's not rocket science, but like with everything.. you can't just force something to work automatically... you have to let it settle in first.... (Analogy: you just don't go out and start physical activities without a nice stretch and warm-up)... same thing with your car... if you try to engage VTEC without warming up the car properly... your car will choke or it won't even reach that rev limit (8000+ RPM)... so just go off your temp gauge on the cluster... and you'll be ok...
I believe the variables are
Engine Temp (Water?)
Throttle Position
Oil Pressure.
Power FC over rides these VTEC kicks in immediately which isn't really a great idea.
