Default Spring rates. How much is too extreme for the street?

Ok I know alot of you care about comfort so let me make this clear. I DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT IT. Since my car is a daily driver though I need it to be safe on the streets and I can't be coming off the ground every time a hit a pebble. I'm really thinking in the area of 12-14kg/mm if not more. Your opinions please.

Right now it is autocrossed and drag raced (track). I plan on starting to hit the big stuff as frequently as possible pretty soon. What I'm thinking is getting some S6's now while they are on sale. Keep the stock suspension for a while longer to get a few track events under my belt. Then throwing on the S6 when I feel ready for it.

How are the roads in AL?

Based on my 1.5+ yrs of driving in ATL on Zeal Function S (12/8 spring rates, albiet in a Civic Si and not an ITR), I'd say 14kg/mm on the front is no problem for street driving, but anything above 8kg/mm on the rear is pushing it - you're gonna be too bouncy.

The main highways and such are pretty good IMO compared to alot of states I have been through. Alot of the backroads though can be pretty rough.

Ha i can only imagine trying to drive with those rates on ohio roads. I swear ohio has to have some of the most beat up, pothole filled roads in the U.S.

so are you saying that to stiff in the back makes a car bouncy?

F14k/R10K is not a bad choice.

Don't forget that he will be doing Q-mile racing, and with the stiffies it might hurt his ETs...

I could care less about 1/4mi ET compared to the handling increase of having S6's.

.....for a good all-around setup, the s6 w/ 12f, 8r will be perfect.

Just swap the springs f-->r and run 8kf, 12kr... That'll be a little tailhappy (so drive carefully on the streets), but great for drag and autox and roadracing alike...

I have the KGM DR Race's (ITR-spec). They're actually softer than the stock ITR springs driving on the streets, as long as you stay off of the bump stops.

In slower, tight turns, the back feels like it wants to keep squatting further...like it doesn't ever hit the full squat threshold. Turnpikes and off-ramps can be taken with confidence.

why? because its not a race car. its a daily driven car. why all the factory tune their car tend to understeer at the limit? because its safer on street. tell me who would like to counter steer everytime when u are under heavy braking at a blind turn due to the traffic ahead?

because it makes things more interesting.

heaven knows I can't exceed the speed limit...I'd fall asleep if it weren't for oversteer.

i run 12k/10k, and it works fine for me. on the rough roads, sometimes after an event it's a little annoying, but aside from that it's fine. anything stiffer will get very annoying though. good luck.

since we're in the U.S. , i'll use our system of measure, lbs...

i run 500lbs front and rear.....never given me a reason to hate my decision, besides the fact a larger sway in the rear would be nice. To bad im unemployed and can't afford such luxuries.

Btw, track events, and general street driving....
