I found an LSD I will probably buy. The only thing is, it uses tapered bearings:



The one I need uses roller bearings:



Can I simply swap the bearings? Please help me out quick! Thanks. Sorry for posting in here..

Yes you can do it and yes it will work fine. Hopefully you wont have a problem getting the bearings off (roller). I swapped them for mine and haven't had one problem.

if your trans was using the tapered bearings to begin with, you will have to replace
the shims as well. but if you want to switch because your trans previously used
the ball bearings then its no problem. just make sure to check the clearance

 

Ok. Say I get the bearings swapped - now setting the preload? What exactly is that?

I'm pretty sure you do not. NOTE: I'm not 100% sure, more like 98%.

 

I need answers. I dunno what to believe. I just want to do it right, and make it exactly like it was stock, then shut the damn tranny and leave it alone.

 

Well wait for someone else to confirm. I swapped them on mine, and my LSD feels as though is still works peachy. I did exactly what you are doing... so take that FWIW. Good luck.

I chipped my stock one. ******* makes me angry thinking about it. What a waste of money this caused.
