Opinions on Spoon B18C engines?
Just wanted everyone's opinion on the Spoon Balanced & Blueprinted B18C longblocks you can get from Spoon (Inlinefour)?
Has anyone ever had one, or no some one who did? Your thoughts would be nice?
Thanks

you could get way more out of the money that you spend on the spoon motor. you are paying for the name and the yellow valve cover.
Yes that was my original opinion on the engine, but we are able to get one for a VERY good price so it has become an option for me to possible by this motor.
Beware, my Spoon balanced longblock started to burn oil big time after 10000km!! When the machine shop taken the engine apart, the valve guides are totally warn out. And it doesn't looked like Spoon used the stock valve guides in their longblock!!

As well do you mean Spoon used a higher or lower grade valve guide?
No, a Spoon longblock come with a stock JDM ITR valve cover, not their bling bling yellow one!! I know I got the Spoon longblock because it come with a Spoon headgasket and it has Spoon wrapping sticker all over it.
The engine is being rebuild right now, that's why I know what caused it to burn oil. I am not sure if it is higher or lower grade valve guides that they used, but for sure it didn't last as long as the stock one.
I would suggest you go get a NEW STOCK JDM ITR longblock if you can find one, it's not that much difference than the Spoon longblock, but for sure you would know it has all the STOCK internal and no surprise down the road!!

If you don't have a ITR long block to start with then Spoon will be a good idea to consider. I have ran the Spoon ITR long block for 2.5 yrs over 35000kms and no problems at all not even burning oil. Daily driving and 8800rpm everyday revving will not be a problem.
Mafay..from what you told me it was the VALVE SEAL...not the guides man...the guides will cause the valve to rattle around instead of going up and down...it'll shift from left/right....
from what I gather....valve guide = *****....valve seal = condom....

RagingAngel, did I say valve seal to you? I must be sleeping when I was talking to you.
I am 100% sure that it is the valve guides that got warn down, not the valve seals.
So in your ***** and condom term, it will be the ***** that got warn down, so the condoms were too big for it and it is leaking.
That's exactly what I thought when I brought the Spoon longblock, but I guess it just didn't work out for me.

most machine shops dont realize that honda runs really loose stem to guide clearances.
guides rarely cause oil to burn, that is going to be the seal instead.
in your case i would probably point to rings.
