Sp00n caliper owners - What do you use to push the pistons in for pad replacement
Got my calipers today from IPS....thanks Mike
(no pics, Everyone and their second cousin know what they look like)
Just wanted to know what you guys use to push the pistons back in for pad replacement.

leave the old pads in so you don't mess up the piston and then use a big pair of channel-lock pliers or a C-clamp.

Dont know if the method of pushing a spoon piston is that different to stock but I use some kind of c clamp when pushing calipers back with some soft wood to prevent any damage to the piston.

What I often do at the track when I'm swaping my setup is attach a bleeder hose to the caliper and loosen the bleed screw. I then push the piston (pistons if your running spoonies) in with relative ease while at the same time bleed my brakes.
Once I get everything bolted back up I set the piston with a few pumps on the brake peddle and then refill the resivior.
I figure with this approach I always end up with fresh fluid inside the calliper.

You can buy a tool especially for compressing the pistion back into the caliper. I have had one for a long time so I don't have a part number or name. It had to have been under $20 and can be money well spent instead of gauging your calipers.

There's a clamp tool w/ a brake pad shaped end that works really quick and easy, regardless of how many pots your caliper has. $10-20.

I thought the point of spoon calipers was that you can change pads wiith the caliper remaining bolted up?
rob- whose dumptruck sounding **** need no piston compression just to change pads
