At this point in time, I have the option of re-doing my exhast piping before coming out of the shop.

Currently my teg is running a B18C/B20B engine with a B18C F-Max turbokit, along with 2.5" downpipe which leads to a 2.9" midpipe, that leads to the rear piping of 2.8" which then connects up with my Kakimoto-R muffler (no cat, just a 2.9" straight-pipe).

Should I upgrade my downpipe and midpipe to 3", retaining the existing 2.8" rear piping & kakimoto-R muffler? i'll change the rear part later once I find a 3" exhaust. Will it help with power at all, and is it really worth it?

I plan on pushing a lot of boost on this engine, but for now, run just 0.6-0.8 bar with the T3/T4 that came with the F-Max kit.

Some people tell me to leave the piping the way it is now, but so many people here are saying that 3" is the way to go. Is there actual dyno proof that 3" makes a big difference over 2.5", with the same setup retaining the same amount of boost? I'm very curious to know..

I don't have dyno to proof this but I would say that when you run a lot of boost, lets say 18psi, You would make more power with the 3' system.

 

still when i switched to 3" throughout on my drag3 kit, i noticed how it spooled up faster right away.

 

Im a little reluctant to reply to this not being a turbo user. But it seems your question is not being answered. I think your asking if its worth the money to upgrade your exhaust from 2.9" to 3.0". I know 3" is ideal for turbo, but I doubt there would be much gain from a mere .1" bigger pipe.

Second thought, since your a big 2.0L plus high boost, and your thinking of reworking your exhaust, maybe bigger than 3.0" would be more beneficial?

But what do I know Im just a newb.

 

IMO if you've got the option to upgrade to a full 3" exhaust, then go for it. You'll definetly spool opon faster, and therefore make more power earlier in the power band. The only possible problem is that your off boost power might suffer a little bit, but half-throttle power isn't exactly what forced induction is about anyway. As far as dyno proof goes, I don't have any to back me up, but I'm sure SOMEONE on this board does

3 inch does show benifical gains it seems after 10 psi from everyone i talked to

I know this is old, but i found it funny that he might make more with a 3 foot exhaust system

 

Sometimes, the bigger the better... the straighter the better... man this doesn't sound good.. YOU PERVS!

For real tho... the straighter and bigger your exhaust is, the more power you'll make and usually the turbo will spool quicker.

Yeah, I think you're gonna be a bit hard pressed to find a 36 inch muffler though. Maybe he can use some sewer pipe?
