Anyone not running an intercooler?
i did temporarily from january '02 to september '02. I had no problems with detonation but i'll tell you the obvious things: took longer to spool (my little 15G spooled up at 3000 rpm vs. the 2500 rpm it spools up at now with a FMIC) and my car ran like crap during days above 80 degrees. No power and it felt slower than stock. heat soaking was a major issue, too.
sure alot of people who run methanol , i remember Gary Gardellas Setup once over this winter, which didnt utilize an IC, and had a HuGeE Y2k Turbo but he was having alot of problems with it, so he switched back
Hmmm, maybe I should have been more specific... Is there anyone HERE who is not running an intercooler on a DOWN to EARTH turbocharged HONDA?
i did for a week because i goi in an accident (STUPID MOOSE) and messed my intercooler up bad. it ran like **** i tried to keep the boost real low because i was afraid of detonation, also it was the middle of winter when i did it. id hate to have done it in the summer (heat soak and detonation)
My buddie and i both have turboed eg hatches his with a d16 and mine with a b16. he ran no intercooler for a while at 5psi, he had no problems what so ever, but this was also during the winter. The time of year makes a big difference because of temps.
Once summer came around he got a rev-hard fmic for a really good deal and i know this is exagerating, but he said at the same boost in hotter temps with the fmic it felt like he gained 50hp. Probaly not really that much, but you could deffinently feel it.
My car is an eg cx hb b16a2 with a t3/t4 and lots more goodies. I am currently running an eclipse smi it sits inside the engine bay where the stock air box would sit. on hot days its like running with no intercooler, power drops and detonation is more prominent. In a few days i should be recieving my monster intercooler from tjn15
Intercoolers have been proven to be a very good addition to turbo charged cars even if there only running 4psi
You aren't going to hurt your engine, but i would reccomend no more than 5psi and just cause i gave you the go ahead doesn't mean that **** can't happen.
The bottom line: do you want to make power or just be able to say your turbo charged
