how to remove upper dashboard?
is there a way to remove that little grey strip that goes all the way across the upper dash? (the part near the windshield). i've seen people mount guages there before and i'm interested in doing the same
thankyou

I've never actually seperated that part from the rest of the dash. But I've had my dash in and out several times, plus I've got a CRX dash in my hatch. Pulling the entire dash out is a breeze. The only hard thing is when you put it back on, getting the cable's to fit back on for the vents. Everything else fits right in and /or plugs right in.
If you guys need more info on pulling the dash out let me know.

i have my gauges there and its it does not come off, that piece is a part of the dash, its actually all completely hollow, it connects to the heater and thats the cavity that carries the heat to the defroster. to install my gauges there, all i simply did was go buy a 2" holesaw then cut the holes in my dash, using a level and measuring tape to make sure everything was even, then once the holes were cut, i drilled a hole on the bottom of the inside so i had a spot to feed the wires down and thats it. Hope that helps.

what is the procedure for removing the dash? it seems complicated.
thanks for the replies!
No need to remove dash at all, all you need is a 2" hole saw a drill and a dremel. First thing i did was mark with a marker the location of each hole, then i used a level to make sure their all even. next i went and cut each hole, after each hole was cut, on some of them there may have been something behind it so i used my dremel and cut whatever the gauge would hit into. Once you have the holes made, if you look into the holes you'll see a vent coming up from the heater, its expands kinda like a V shape, all you gota do is takea long drill bit and drill a hole on either side of the V, preferably the left side because its easier to reach into. Once you have the hole done you can snake all the wires through there, go under the dash and look up at the location about where it is and you'll see what im talking about, it wasnt half as hard as i thought it would be and it does not require you remove yoru dash, simply take your timea nd make sure their all level, like 2 of mines are about 2 mm off so just tkae your time. also dont put the gauges too close together, i put about 1/2" between each one, if you cut closer, you run risk of the piece breaking, its a thin piece of fiberglass. Only other suggestion i can give you is that when you cut with your hole saw, put some towels around the cut cuz all the shavings are gona get all over the damn place!
excellent instructions. do you have any pics of what you did? like the final result? also, does it matter where you mount them (i.e. in the middle, towards passenger side, etc) or is it all the same as far as obstructions from behind?
thanks again.
i just wanna make sure i know exactly what to do bc i'll be in freezing weather doing this and i want it to look nice

I would like to know how the dash is removed. I tried it once but didn't have time to actually find everything that had to come off. If someone has the instructions or a site I would appreciate it. My Haynes manual doesn't give good directions
well if you want to be able to see them i would say the center is the best part to put them, the only thing with that is the heat blows direactly up onto the gauges at that location, which is where i have mine. It doesnt affect them at all, in the center is where you'll find more crap blocking them, mostly tiny plastic brackets and seams. Also the center is where the V heater piece is thats nice and soft for you to cut into and goes directly down into an open spot for you to feed the wires down.
yeah, hondacrx's instructions are good. i had to swap 2 dashboards not to long ago...as my dad would put it "its a bag of snakes" good luck with the gauges
