SRS light on 96 LX help
the srs light is on, anyone know why? How do I figure out the problem? It was on when we bought the car... took it back to the dealer, and it stayed off for about 3 days. came on again, and took it back to the dealer. This time they said the part wasnt under warranty. (actuator? activator?)
Where is this activator? anyone else have these problems that can share some insight?
Or more specifically anyone have any recall info on this SRS system.
Info on how to reset the SRS computer?
more specifically
thanks

When the SRS light is on, your airbag system is disabled. Meaning if your in an accident, your airbags will not function.
Did you buy the car used recently? Or brand new. I've seen people who installed Indiglo dashes **** up the dash such that SRS light comes on.

lol they will still work, even if you pull out the fuse they will still works.
but for the sake of not eating airbag.
go try to reset the light first.
tell us what you did first?
went into pot holes?
remove the seat?
remove the bumper?

LOL you gonna need to reset the SRS first.
it will go away if the system have no error in it.
for example...I removed my front seat and set off the srs.
since my car is brand new..and i know i havent hit anyting yet.
so i reset the srs, which the system run a check inside of the system
to make sure nothing is wrong before letting the srs light go away.
you can do two thing..
bring it to stealer..i mean dealer and have 70 bucks ready
or reset it yourself.
I have done it twice, and it's basically take about 5 min and one piece of
copper wire.
Since i dont know where is the MES connector is at in your car(i have 6th gen)
so go ask your friends or do a search(been covered already), if nothing
helpful im me or post here again.
but keep this in mind, the srs warning light wont go away if something's wrong.

Check the code the same way you would a CEL. That will point you towards the problem.

correct
its most likely that the dealer just reset it and when it came back on just named something that can be wrong with it.
if you have a helms manual, it tells you the problem that corresponds with the code it throws. check that. its probably just a broken wire in one of the harnesses, mine does the same thing. when you check the light, the helms will tell you exactly whats wrong with it.

Which is the MES connector? There's the yellow one at the way bottom that is just hanging there, and there's the one at the way top that's a pain to get out. My friend's mechanic messed up the wiring once and I don't know what the Honda dealer fixed, so I'm not sure if this is what it's supposed to look like. It's for a '96 LX as well. If this isn't where it's at, could someone post a picture of where the actual location is? The picture at http://2k1civic.com/diy/images/srs_plug.jpg doesn't look the same as the one below. Thanks!
(6th gen mine) yellow connector with those push release locking thingie.
with 2 grey wires.
but there's two fo them in my car. i tested them both, they look identical.

is it actually plugged into something in the fusebox? There's a yellow cable dangling around there, but it's not plugged into anything. Not sure if it's really supposed to be dangling or not.
