im going to retard my ignition and need some help on what to listen or look for and what the perfomence gains there will be?

 

It sounds like your ignition isnt the only thing thats retarded

 

Nothing. You dont gain anything.


You only retard the ignition timing for the reasons below.
1. You want to pass emissions
2. You are on boost(either bottle or forced induction) and preventing detonation.
3. You got greedy when building a motor and told yourself, "since I'm spending money for pistons, might as well get a 15:1 comp ratio like the nitro methane guys on the race track on my daily driven, pump gas, civic". Then you told your friends you got the baddest motor on the street. "race ready!".

i was told that i just turn the distirbutor clockwise and listen untill knock then turn counterclockwise untill knock stops/
