Warranty question
I've been looking around for an answer to this and haven't found one yet.
I sent in my 2000 Honda Accord for a warranty related repair today. I had it checked by the dealership by my house a couple of weeks ago and was told that it is bottom-end noise.
They now tell me that although the repairs will be covered, the diagnostics will not be. The tech told me that it'll be at least 2-3 hours billed. I apparently already have 1 hour worth of diags on the problem the last time I brought it in.
Can they do this? I checked the Honda warranty and nowhere in there does it say that diags are not included. I was told that they charge it because it decreases the fruvolus warranty claimes. Should this not be waived if it is deemed a warranty issue?
My question is what is the best way to get the dealership to drop this if they're only doing it to minimize their losses.
It's a 2000 Accord bought in Nov. 99. It has 66,000 Km on it. I have all the regular maintenance invoices that show I've been doing my part.

diagnostics are part of the repair, do not let them tell you otherwise
tell them that if the problem were that easy to diagnose that you would have told them what was wrong with it from the start

Take it to another dealership and let them know you will NEVER purchase another vehicle again. Speak to the service manager and then to the dealership manager.
I have worked as a honda tech in a dealer now for 28 yrs. The diag. and repairs are warranty covered. Ask to speak to the district service rep. and I bet they will change there tune real quick. You can also call customer service at Honda and report you dealings to them, they will set the dealer strait.

Just a follow-up here. The car is finally back and fixed under warranty. I was told that they tell their customers this to filter out the "everyday" person who walks in and demands a diag. because he/she hears something.
They replaced 2 pistons, the con-rod, and a new head. Along with a free oil change
Once again the Accord sounds like and Accord and not a 57 Chevy!
They also let me use a curtesy car, although they gave me the "this is not our policy" speach.

Sounds like they were trying to hose you. I wonder how many people don't question them and pay it. If we tried somethind like that, our district rep would kick our asses.
Glad that I could be of some help and that you made out ok. I still think it was BS to tell you that. Our dealership does not play those kind of games, not worth the trouble. If you ever come to Ocala Fla., look us up.
Since it is my understanding that honda reimburses deals for the cost of all warranty work, those guys were trying to get paid twice. once by honda, and once by you. [sarcasm]Nice![/sarcasm]
why any dealer would risk their reputation over what ammounts to $150 is well beyond my comprehension.
treat a customer wrong once and they will tell eveyone who will listen about it.
