GSR rods into LS Block?
alright well theyre not exactly GSR rods but i found a set of JE rods and pistons out of a GSR, hes selling them for pretty cheap and i was wondering if they would fit into a B18A block?
theyre a 81MM bore if that makes any difference
also was there a difference in rod length between the vtec and non vtec block? what about bore size?

Bore is the same but the rods are different for the B18C and B18A/B... Are you sure they are JE rods??? Never heard of them before... The GSR crank is 1.8mm less in stroke than that of a B18A/B this is why there is a difference it rod length... If you have an LS block and crank then the GSR rod will not work for you.. Get a B18C crank and you can make it work... I personally would just get a B18C block tho... No need to run external oil feed... Latez
turns out they were JE pistons with GSR rods i just read the ad wrong
alright so what is the stock bore of a B18? i just saw a set of JE 8.5 pistons with a pretty low reserve and he said the bore was 81.5mm would these be a drop in?

Stock bore is 81mm..... I would feel fine going to 81.5 just as long as you aren't trying to run crazy boost... You are planning on boostin it right?? with a C/R of 8.5:1... If you wanna boost a lot I would sleeve the motor and go with aftermarket rods... check out GE... http://www.goldeneaglemfg.com/sleeves.htm My friend's GSR turbo motor for his EK isn't sleeved but it's bored .50mm over with JE 9.0:1 slugs and Eagle rods... His best full interior on 13lbs. was a 11.91@119.8... My other friend's sleeved GSR turbo motor for his daily driven EK pushes 505hp to the ground on 22psi... Just a little info if ya didn't know... Peace
yeah im gonna be boosting but not more than 10lbs max, when boosting isnt it a good idea to have the piston a tiny bit smaller than the bore to allow for expansion from heat?
No get the pistons that are setup for whatever bore ie 81.50mm then have the block overbored .50mm... That's all you need to do... Good Luck

ok so if my stock bore of a B18A1 is 81mm shouldnt i get 80.5mm pistons and some really good rings? i remembering reading an article that said how an all motor engine should be built tight and a turbo built loose
WELL i've never heard or that..... If you wanna try it go ahead, but that's not the way i have ever built a motor... If i was working with an 85mm bore then i use 85mm pistons etc... Latez
I would buy the pistons that fit the bore and have a higher ring package to reduce risk of detonation and cleanup those emissions. Since I know you'll get bored with 10psi and you'll have the block open you might as well get it sleeved so you can "sleep" safely at night. There's no need to ever drop the compression ratio if you use the N/A application pistons and get them polished, and if you can afford it get them ceramic coated and you'll love the temps you'll get. Dished pistons were needed about one or two years ago before the availabilty of cheap tuning syatems like Hondata or the standalones. A good design will burn the mixture when it's ignited not before; not after. Remember the word TUNER that's what you've gotta do not just slap it together like you can a domestic muscle car.
