from my understanding...
when u can see the coolant in the block of the engine (if the head were off...) open deck (its open..u can see)
when u can't see the coolant in the block of the engine (if the head were off...)
closed deck (its enclosed in the block....)
hope that helps your "visualization
"
(if im wrong..feel free to correct me someone!

when i was a noob i got the exact same problem, people would talk about open and closed deck, but they really couldn't explain it.
here, this will make you understand easy
See where the pistons go up and down, no look that there are holes, but not many, those are coolant holes
Now look at this one, see that is a WHOLE circle, this one is open deck
In my opinion open desk is a really advance design, and i'm almost 100% sure that it makes everything last a lil longer cuz it dissipates a lot more heat into the coolant, leaving less "hot spots" that may cause detonation on the chamber.
If you got any questions don't hesitate to ask, they might flame you, but someone will teach you, but always make sure to search.
Hope i help

yeah, it should be fun. Having problems getting the orings to seal properly right now. I plan on running about 7 psi on the street and as much as my turbo will push at the track, probly right around 22psi. yeah i know that people will tell me not on 91 octane. And people will tell me i need a standalone. okay. and bigger injectors, done. So I'll let you all know how it runs.
