Default possible to have the D motor built w/ 2g's?

tax season is coming, and i'll be able to drop 2g's on my motor build-up, but i'm not sure how far it'll take me.

JE custom pistons = $600
block resleeved + machining = $800-900
eagle rods = $300

looks like that'll pretty much end there, with all the gaskets i'll have to get too....question is should i go ahead and upgrade the valvetrain too? or just throw on a stock head? motor will be seeing 10:1 compression and no more the 12psi

What kind of turbo do you have? You might wanna get some arp head studs while you're at it.

arp headstuds won't fit the y8 motor...they will fit the a6, z6 and even the z6/y8 combo..but the studs are way too long for the y8 block and head.

Then why bother resleeving with such low boost levels?

turbopanda's combo of Toyota pistons/B16 rods are proven to withstand quite alot of boost, throw in a blockguard (properly installed of course), get everything machined and balanced and you'll be good to go.

Now comes the hard part....figuring out what to buy with that other $1k!

But if you want to sleeve for the peace of mind, then go for it too. But personally, I can't justify investing that much into a D series motor (got one in my EX as well).

I've heard about using the Toyota pistons several times, but I've never been able to find a source for them. Do any of you know where to get them???

I'm going through the same issue you are. A full rebuild over winter. Got most of my parts already ordered and they should be here next week. As far as the ARP head studs. You're correct that it won't work on the Y8 head casue they're too long but ARP has a set out especially for the Y8. If you're looking for a cam, I went with Crower. Basically my whole valve train is corwer including the connecting rods. Read up on different camshafts. Readings a bitch but you got to do it sometimes.

resleeving plus machining should not cost 800.. sleeves are what 45+ each.. it hsould cost no more than 200 to have them put it and then machine work maybe 150? atleast where i am thats around what it would cost. it cost 250 to have a b20 block bored to 84.5, hot tanked, flywheel clutch and crank were also balanced.. i know this a lot different but ive seen people put down estimate at this around 500+

I ordered them from my local supplier that I deal with. They had the part number for the ARP head studs in stock but on the computer someone put on file not to sell the head stauds casue tehy don't fit. So the guy I deal with all teh time called down to ARP and they gave him the correct part number for the Y8 head. They should be here next week along with all my other parts.

I know this is off topic but if you guys have a spare Z6 or y8 shorblock layign around please email me or im me here ... I am sort of needy for one right now. Of course i will buy from you i don not expect it free.

BTW

Resleeve your engine to a 79mm and you'll have the 1.7L . OR do you think that will be too much ?

I was trying to squeeze 1.8 out of a SOHC but I guess that's not even possible.

Yeah whats up you can boost 12psi on stock internals? Just not everyday, but you don't wannaa be losing traction everyday anyway. You are building your motor for more like 20psi plus.... Why not go eagle rods srp pistons and a blockgaurd good to go up tp 15psi and you will stay with in your 2k.

What!?! you can get an D up to 2.0L if you wanted too, check out the link in my post above and you could even go higher than that if you add an deck plate to the block.

i dont know exactly what you are looking for but check out our engine section on the site. Those are basic block prices for different stages. Keep in mind these are ready to go blocks. includes new oil pump, oil pan gasket, bearings, oil filter, and assembled.

Dont forget a set of rod and main bearings, along with balancing the bottom end..
