Default Timing belt harmonics....

Im having some issues revving 500rpm before cutoff. Everytime I wind up, I hear a "SHHHHHH" sound from the timing belt side. It sounds like something is vibrating. No power loss. I have NO heat shields either.

Valves are properly adjusted, compression check is okay.

Somebody had told me it might be the harmonics from the timing belt. The belt has approx 70K on it. Is it time for a new belt. BTW this sound has been going on for the past 30k miles.

TIA

migs

70K miles!
Change that bad boy ASAP, especially if you're exercising the car.

Have you checked the belt tension or deflection?

pretty straight...
might as well replaced those things when you replace the timing belt
everything is located right there...saves you labor charges

I put a new tensioner on at 85K miles just for peace of mind when I changed the timing belt.

If the water pump isn't leaking then I wouldn't change it (I didn't and it was still fine @ 125K a couple weeks ago).

Better safe than sorry, especially when goofing off.

once it gets time to change your timing belt when your getting close to 100k ...its a good idea to get a new tensioner ...water pump ..etc .......and yes ....change that belt
