It's very simple really. Your care hates you, just like mine hates me!
I believe it has something to do with not being grounded when you are touching the ground and your car after building up static against the cloth seats, carptet...
Anyone else? I am curious too...

I do know they sell those little things that hang from under you car that touches the ground so your car is grounded I think? Kinda just drags along when you're driving but it's really small and bends easily. I know a couple friends use to have it a looonnggg time ago....

I thought you were grounded by your tires and thats why you are told to stay in your car when there is lightning and water on the ground......but i may be wrong..hehe
my car shocks me now too.. i think it just has to do with the time of the year. its not a humidity thing because i just drove it from texas to california and it still zaps me every time i touch the top of the door on the way out

Also to the highest point. If you're standing up, you're placing yourself higher than the car, so more chance.
Also there is a phenomenom in physics, I forgot what they call it, but if you place an object in conductive cage of any kind and suspend an object in the middle of it, whether it be the air, or using an non-conductive base, the electricity will not and cannot penetrate through the conductive cage. In fact there will be no electricity activity within the container. This is why your cell phone don't work in a concrete buildings. There are steel beams in the concrete and the building acting as a big *** cage.

Try holding onto the car, like the pillar before you step out of the car. I used to get shocked all the time, but now i do it that way and i doesn't happen anymore. One of my friends told me to try it, i know it sounds stupid but it worked for me. If that doesn't work for you than i don't know what else to tell you.
This is wierd, my friend and I were just talking about this because when I take her home, she always gets shocked and when I get out I get shocked. Anyways, I think I'll just grab onto my door pillar when I get out for now on
. But yeah, I didn't get shocked in the summer either. Kinda wierd.

Static electricity is why you get shocked. Cloth seats are notorious for this. When you get up out of your seat, the fabric drags along your body and scrapes electrons off of the atoms from your body, shirt whatever. When you open your door and touch the frame, those atoms that just lost electrons just found a source that is happy to supply them, so they jump from the frame to you and ZAP you get shocked. Humidity lessens your chance of getting shocked, so starting in fall when it gets cold, it gets less humid and you get shocked more and more. A trick i use is to push on the glass to shut the door because glass is a very nice insulator

just get some damn static clinq spray like the use for clothes and stuff....spray on the seats and you won't get shocked....it always worked in my old sentra that had cloth seats.
I use to always get shocked as well. Just hold grab some metal part of the car as you are coming out. Make sure you step out before you let go. It's worked for years and I never get shocked anymore.
take a pice of speaker wire and attach it to the bottom of your car a screw or bolt make sure you strip some insulation off..leve enough to drag the ground that should fix it and it does work..
I work in the 9th floor of a building and it shocks everyone like crazy. My boss used to be an electrical engineer and he told me to take a key or ring and press against it real tightly on the metal (ie. press your thumb against the back of the ring into your finger or hold the base of the key on the metal real tight) then touch whatever offending metal object usually shocks you and the spark will hit the key or ring and not shock you, then you can touch it like normal. It has something to do with resistance but I never really delved into the physics behind it. Try it trust me it works.

maybe try some of those anti-static sheets you put in the laundry... just rub it all over the seat and see if it helps.

Thanks.
Nicely put.
