can i wire this to 2 ohm
i just bought a 12 inch alpine type r. it is a 4 ohm speaker. it is 300 watts rms and 1000 watts max and is a dual voice coil speaker. i also have a brand new 300watt rms alpine on the way. one of thier new v12's. it is a a mono channel amp. what i want to know is if i can wire my speaker to a be 2 ohm's so i can get the most out of my amp. if so will you please tell me how to go about it exactly. i've already searched through google but didn't come up with any tech articles. thanx ahead for any info.

dual voice coil speaker.
just take the positive from each voice coil and run it to the positive on the amp, then do the same with the negatives
bam, 2 ohms
bam, 2 ohms
, so yeah, what he said will work.
dual voice coils r double the ohms. for instance if its a 2ohm dvc then its 4 ohms. if its 4dvc then its a 8 ohms. and im not sure if a mono amp will work. i believe u will have to go with a 2 channel not a single mono. correct if im wrong. im running 2 12inch 4ohm dvc.
incorrect...you the final resistance depends whether or not the coils are wired in series or parallel. if the coils are wired in series then you add the resistance. if they are in parallel the resistance would be 1/total resistance = 1/(load 1) + 1/(load 2) and so in depending how many loads you have

ok so ya'll are saying that if i wire my speaker like to seperate speakers that i should be all right. i was talking with a friend at school and he said that i might could take it to an audio shop and they could drop it to 2 ohms. i am new to this but i havent ever heard of anyone doing this. but if what ya'll are telling me will work than i will just stick to that.
