Default Vtec is not engaging as hard as it should

I have a 90 integra bottom end with a 90 jdm b16a head. I just had it built but can't figure out why it isn't hitting in as hard as it should. I know it is engaging because I hear the changover. But it only makes noise and doesn't pull. Havn't been to the track to test but on the street it doesn't feel that good. I have all the ness. equipment to run ls/vtec. Pr3 ecu, vtec wires up as it should be, ect. HELP, HELP

vtec, along with a dual stage intake (if you have one), keep the torque curve up. If you can keep the torque up as the rpm's rise, you'll get more horsepower. So, since vtec doesn't "add" hp when it engages, you'll won't feel it. I don't feel it in my car, I felt it a little in some of the ITR's I've ridden in, but that's about it. But, in some of the heavily modified cars, like the 183 mph vortech civic, the wheels will break loose at the vtec engagement. HTH

I have a 92 integra ls/vtec with a gude head package and I have also rebuilt the bottom end a little like replacing main and rod bearings and using b16 pistons and total seal piston rings and I have just put a p28 computer in, but I also em having problems with the vtec it feels as if it ant as powerful as it should be, but my computer is not chiped yet, but I dont know if that could be the problem because I have also been told it could be the hydralic pin witch engages vetec but I will hopfully find out win I get my chip.

I think the reason yours isn't engaging as hard is because you have a p28 ecu. I think you need a p30. That is the right one for your car. I believe the p28 is for a sohc vtec.

I know they use the p28 all the time, but you have to have them chipped for a dohc motor. I was just letting you know. I bet when you get it chipped you will feel a big difference.

What pistons did you put in the block? What cams are in the b16a head?

mah suggestion is to get all needed parts especially for hybrids u should get a ecu or vafc, manifold, and a bigger throtlle body...if u already have this check the v tec hose dat goes to da head....and also timing and tuning is a must....FYI BE SURE TO GET ALUMINUM FITTINGS THE BRASS CAN CRACK.....good luck...peace

I just found out that the shop that built my engine put gs-r 12.5 compression pistons in my ls bottom end. So with the ls strock it puts the compression up to about 13.5 to 14.5. I took off the head and found out that I was only running on two cylinders from the looks of the pistons. Two were in almost new condition and the other looked like they should. The head gasket blew and now I have no compression in any cylinder. So I found out why my vtec wasn't engaging as hard as it should.

What pistons are in the engine? Do you drive this everyday? Call me crazy but the comp sounds just a tad bit high

It is really high. I forgot what kind of pistons they put in there. I know that they are 12.5 compression pistons for a gsr.
