I was racing an eclipse tonight and I redlined 3rd and misshifted into 2nd. I was only in it for like 2 seconds. Motor sounds fine, no signs of any problems. Any info? Possible valve damage?

wow.. that sucks man.. i had a similar problem to that... umm.. jus do a compression test or a leak down test... i forgot which one already... best way to find out if something is wrong with your motor...

 

just listen to the motor for some bent valves....no worries though, everyone has done it.

 

then after all that, read the current post in OT about this nasty street racing accident. 1 kid dead, one driver dead(splattered all over a center divider), one kid who lost an arm, one beautiful girl who got airlifted.

I did the same thing a few months ago. I bent up my valves, but in my case, we could tell right away something was wrong cause it started making a noise like an exhaust leak.

 

I for one have never done it. A friend of mine blew his engine that exact same way. Only one shitty looking piston(because the rest weren't there). it was bad!!

 

i have never gone from 3rd to 2nd but when i had my MR2 with the 4AGE which i sware is one of the best motors ever built in our time i was flying up onto the highway and i was in 4th gear doing about 80+ and when shifting up to 5th i accidentally went in to 3rd, the engine instantally hit the rev limiter and i quickly threw in in N and then back to 5th, didnt do any damage and the car ran fine for the rest of the time i had it, before that i had also driven from Boston to Derry, NH (about 45 miles) with no water pump after the belt had broken, of course i didnt realize this until i had driven to work (about 25mi) with the same no water pump and the car wouldnt start when i left cuz the battery had dide cuz the alternator stopped spinning as well, motor still ran fine after that too

 

valve damage is pretty obvious, for the most part u can hear your exhaust gas sputter out of your muffler and sometimes a werid idle.. check engine light comes on too..
- leak down test will help u out

Nope.

GSR's have one of the more precise shifters for a FWD, kind of makes it difficult to misshift when done properly.

 

heh, i've gone 1st to 4th but never 3 to 2nd. and never 4th to 3rd.

 

hmmm, my transmission won't let me go to a gear that the engine won't like (like if i'm going 80 in 3rd it won't allow me to go into 2nd).
