Default High Mileage Upgrades

Hey all

I'm new to the import genre and just got a 93' Accord LX. The car has 188,000 miles on it. Would it decrease the life of the engine if I added exhaust or intake?? or should I look for a rebuilt or low mileage H22. Thanks for anyones help..

No problem for the small bolt-ons on a high mileage engine, as they don't affect the internal functions of the engine. But if you can afford it , h22 is a nice mod...

PS welcome here

Anything other than a Honda and I'd say no but mine has 194K and going strong and I am doing some mild tweaks to improve perfromance under "commuter" conditions. As long as it's not using oil or making noises tweak away.

depends on the quality of the engine, does it look to be in good shape? more importantly how does it run? are all the bearings, bushings, seals, gaskets, belts, etc. in good shape?

my suggestion would be do preventative maintainence first then do modifications, hell sometimes you can incorporate the two

Well It does burn some oil.. About 1/2 to a full quart a month. The harder I drive it then the more oil it burns.

I know the previous Owner very well and he says that it's been taken care of. I have all the records and he was the only onwner of the car. It still seems to run strong but I'm not a mechanic and only know the basics of how the Honda's run.

It has just had a tune up, spark plugs, oil and filter, fuel filter, the baisc. But I should probably get a compression test done. Thanks all

Well, me and my big mouth. Left for work right after I replied and lost an oil seal on the way. Didn't hurt the motor yet but I got oil EVERYWHERE and losing it at the rate of about a qt. evry 6 miles. Am going to try to make it home. Got 2 gasllons from the fork lift mechanic in jugs in the trunk, hope that gets me home.............
