East Coast / Rollbars and Rollcages
Hey guys ... just a heads up for the winter months. We are taking appointments for NHRA certifiable cages and Rollbars. In case you havent seen any of our work hit up our web site....Also for those of you needing your already built cage to be certified, we will be hosting another tech inspection in the end of January. This past year we hosted one at our shop that brought in 12 cars. "Ole Walley" (NHRA)pays for the festivities like drinks and donuts and stuff, then they do a saftey seminar also. Certification is only 75 bucks and that goes to NHRA not us. If we build you a cage we include the certification with the build if it will be in our shop at the time of our seminar. We also do wheelie bars and other custom suspension setups. Our facility has the capablity to corner balance your car too and do alignments to .001". We will be posting some of our customer cars up soon that are in the shop now getting built. I also was the orignal person who built Sean Glazars Mirage and just got finished with his 8 sec Talon for the 3rd time.(hope it doesnt have a fire again) We also painted his new RWD tube chassis and FG body. Even if you need some technical info on NHRA saftey rules or if your building your own and need fabrication materials give us a call.....540 955 2263

I have a 2000 Civic Si but already have an Art Morrison 6 point cage that I need welded in and also certified. Can you tell me the cost for that? Also when is a roll cage needed to be certified for NHRA? I was told by some local Mustang Guys that it needed certification 9.99 or faster, is this true? Thanks!
The 6 pt is not a NHRA certifiable saftey device. It doesnt need to be certified. You can run the 6 pt setup to 10.00 as long as it follows certain guidlines. if its chromoly it needs to be tig welded and all tubes are min. 1 3/4" Dia .083" thickness. All plates need to be 36 sq " . And yes we can install the rollbar for you. There are things that we do on our custom installs that I would like to follow with yours which would require us to talk about. Give me a call at the shop between 9am-6pm this week Ill talk it over with you.

actually you can run a 5 point to 10.00 as long as you have an unalterd firewall, floor and body, and as long as you dont go FASTER than 135mph. but in todays world with high HP front drives this does not really apply. For a rollcage it is 10.99 or 135mph if you have an alterd firewall, floor and body. if it is unaltered it is 9.99
hope this helps

No problem.....most imports dont have altered firewalls....and if they are running anything close to a lower 10 sec. run they should have a 8pt anyway for saftey....but the rules are very clear on this subject and havent change in over 15 years....And if the car is running over 135mph...it will run a 9.99 soon....

I just got off the phone with our Zone Chassis Tech....Looks like FEB 22, 2003.
We will make this an open house also...This will allow others to see some of the pro cars and some drivers. We will make this more of a party than anything..
Also just so there is a heads up....I will be sitting down with some of the SFI inspectors here soon about some other saftey guidlines for cars running in the 160mph + catagory. They believe that an 8pt for these cars is not safe enough. My position in this would be to help create safer guidlines but keep us from having to build SFI 25C cert. chassis for these cars. BTW....a less expensive route to the HANS device is BSR Safety Products....these run in the 350-450 range and have been approved for use in NASCAR and other stuff.....there number is 800 432 2798 or web address http://www.BSRsafety.com

no doubt just trying to cover all the bases. AR FAB your a chassis builder i have a question. can i run a 1 5/8 ch. tubing from rocker to rocker (this would be called a frame memeber?) and set my roll bar hoop on this? If i would want to back half my car this would better for future modifications. Some times it is hard to interpret NHRA's rules. I was just curious.
thanx

BTW
5-6PT (properly built) will get you by until 9.99 & no faster than 135mph
8PT (cert.) will get you to 7.50 and slower
over 150 mph you need a chute
any 8PT(cert.) will need a net as per the rules...(lots of tracks dont enforce this)
I dont claim to know the rules perfectly, but when we build each car, we contact our chassis tech when we are in question about something before we screw up...

Ok Joel....Yes you may do this...make sure you put backing plates on the rockers....and while your at it, being that you will be cutting out the floor in the future , youll need to put in some rocker bars that run front to rear between the rear hoop and the front down bars...this bar is a minumum 1 5/8" .083 for CM.....Our old Nitrous only car is setup like this..(never made it to the 9's) but is still Cert. Which has recently been sold to a team in Indy thats gonna build it for Allmotor class...
