Default question

When I came to drive home today in my 89 Accord DX, I noticed that the trademark rust just above the wheel well was soaked with gasoline. This gas was dripping down the inside of the wheel well and making a small puddle on the ground. The rust is right underneath my gas cap, and I had just filled it up the day before. As soon as I drove home, the gas dissipated/blew off and now it is no longer in the area of rust. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to whether this could be the gas cap (it has a broken seal), the fuel line from the cap to the tank, the tank itself, or anything else? thanks a lot.

Were you parked on a hill at all? My driveway is a hill and after I filled up, there would be a puddle. Just get a new gas cap. They actually have the exact one at autozone for like 7 bucks. If it still leaks it could be your filler tube has a hole rusted in it.

I wasn't parked on a hill, although further investigation points towards it being the gas cap (worn paint underneath it, car clean where trail of gas would have been from cap to wheel well). I'll try a new cap and take it from there. hopefully it isnt the filler tube....thanks a lot
