Default Camgear info needed ASAP...

I tried a search and came up with nothing that will help me. I think I may have things backwards, and if that's the case I need to go back to 0,0 and get back on the dyno. My question is when the gear is at 0 degrees and you move the inner sprocket to the left, thus causing the markings to move right is that advancing or retarding? Please let me know any info you have on this topic as I think I may have done the process backwards thus retarding my intake and advancing my exhaust which may be why I was only getting 168whp. Thanks a lot for your help guys

If you move the inner towards the front of the car you're advancing, moving it towards the firewall you're retarding.

cliff notes:
inner to the left=advance
inner to the right=retard

are you sure about that? The inner part is connected to the camshaft correct? So if you turn the camshaft towards the firewall isn't that advancing and towards the front bumper would be retarding...does this make sense?

TypeR1111

When you retarded the intake did you bump your ignition timing back to where it was at first?

No, didn't have a timing gun handy, and that may explain the low numbers. I still need to check the ignition timing ASAP, i'll be heading to autozone after work to borrow a timing light. Any idea of about how much the ignition timing changes per degree on the cam gear. I'm currently set at +4 intake/-2 exhaust and I put down 168.8 WHP which I was disappointed with and 126.7 lbs/tq which isn't too bad. I'm starting to think my WHP may be low due to the fact that my ignition timing may be off.

And I didn't retard the intake, I advanced it....isn't that the norm? advance intake, retard exhaust?

I believe every 2 degrees of intake cam advancement is 4 degrees ignition advance.

Yeah, but sometimes the ecu sets it back for you if you don't jump the service connector.
