Default Odd shifting, when pulling into second..."chu-CHunK!"

You know how when shifting you can put relatively no force on it and it will just "fall" into gear really smooth?? All my other gears still do this, but for some reason the stick meets restance halfway in and forces me to pull harder to settle it into gear.
Note: this is not sport shifting or anything, just smooth acceleration shifting at 2500-3000 rpm.
Now the interesting thing is that sometimes it will go in smooth, and then tends to go in smooth more often when shifting at 4000rpm+
Ann this leads me to think that either my shifter is out of adjustment, I have a worn shift linkage, or my second gear is becoming non sincronized??? I dont know

specs if it helps: 94 LX 5speed, F22B2, 120K, the car was well takn care of when I bought it at 111K... I continue to baby it, except for some semi hard driving and sport shifting from time to time.

One more question: never happened before, but started my car up last night, sat there for about half a minute to warm it up, started backing out and the idle befan going up and down 500rpm, then I started driving because it wouldnt stop, pushed in the clutch to see if it would do it and it had stopped.
Catching cable on the wax cup that adjust the rpm based on the temp???

edit: where can I pick up a code reader to see if there is a mal? Autozone seems to only have domestic ones or for 96+
thanks guys

The idle going up 500rpm, and suddenly falling down again could mean your o2 sensor is getting old. I agree with the bad syncro too.

You idle could be the FIV or a vacuum problem.

Sorry I didnt make it clear, the check engine light is NOT on...

and correct me if I am wrong, but syncros are the "fingers" that move into one another when you shift into a gear. And you believe that I have mangled one slightly wich is disallowing me to shift into second smoothly unless I am shifting at 3500+
Also, replaceing the syncros requires a tranny drop, yes? Any idea on the cost of a new set?

Question: FIV where is it located? on engine of connected with a vaccume hose??thanks

I think you can just bring it autozone and they'll get the code for you for free.

Also, if its only 2nd gear that isn't smooth its probably a synchro, if its all of them then it could be your clutch pressure plate going. Mine does the same thing but in all gears, I'm getting a new clutch soon and I'll see if that helps.

I just thought that they could only do 96 and newer because of the connection...
