oil pan issues
I just bought my car a while ago and just did the first oil change yesterday (2000 miles) well im going turbo and here is my question. I noticed that i have a cast aluminum oil pan WTF!! I want a regular stamped oil pan like on all other hondas, so i can weld to it easier. What year civic comes with the pan im looking for? Car is a 2000 ex, thats a d16y8. I am hoping that other pans from earlier civics will fit.
Thanks

Just braze a fitting on. You can get a aluminum brazing kit from mcmaster.com for less than five bucks. It should braze aluminum to a brass or non-ferrous fitting no problem. Maybe you can brass or bronze braze it too, not sure about that tho.
You will need a torch of some kind...

Rob, have someone weld an alumninum fitting to it. Ask dustin about the story at SEMA when he talked to the Miller welder guys. He'll probably remember if you say the Ion story..hehe

Aluminum brazing is VERY strong. You can even do it with one of those small blue propane torches. It would be perfect for putting an aluminum fitting onto an aluminum oil pan. Less heat than welding, so there is not as much chance for warpage to occur.
so you guys think that i should just keep this pan that i have and have it tapped? or weld/braze a fitting onto it? Where can i get the bung that needs to be welded/braxed to it? or since it is kinda thick casting perhaps a tap will work? what do you guys think?
Art, i will talk ot dustin about it to

Because all that i have is an old oxy actylyn torch and a MIG welder, i guess i could just go and get it done but i like to do it my self. i think that i will just use a bulkhead fitting.
