Default Individual Throttle Bodies - Cost effectiveness?

Are ITBs (with ECU tuning etc) a cost effective upgrade on the B Series engines before doing internal engine modifications (i.e. cams, compression ratio increase, etc)?

i don't know too much about ITBs but, is there even a filter between the ITBs and the combustion chamber? and wouldn't it be sucking in all the hot engine air too? someone please enlighten me

Doesn't make sense to get ITBs without high compression pistons, aggressive cams, a nice port&polish etc. ITBs like high compression.
The car CAN be streetable. There are some guys running around with ITBs on street-driven Hondas..
Check http://www.importbuilders.com I know he has dyno charts with ITBs, etc.. Good luck..

Thanks for the replys all.

I was rreally just trying to find out if it was a cost effective method of getting more power (no necessarilly the most power), as I know of some people with Lotus Elises and Vauxhall engines in the UK have had good results with them (I realise that these engines are very different to the ITR lump, but wanted to know if it was the same on the ITR or not).

Personally I want to go with cams and hi-comp first.

As to not being streetable I don't see why not. I have had a few cars with carbs with individual venturies and they all idled fine and were no problem to drive.

Can anyone give me reasons why they believe ITBs are not streetable?

You can get filters like for carbed engines. ITBs tend to suck air from the back of the engine bay and I would think that that air can be quite hot. Like all induction you can duct cold air towards it I suppose.

You could always create an intake plenum ala bmw m3, skyline rb26dett

i think only show cars run ITB's without any sort of filtration. Most racecars will have a tuned plenum.

I think they ment not streetable as it will not pass emissions. You will need a stand alone ecu to tune the engine properly. Are you talking about the Toda setup? If so, they are suspose to have an ecu to work with that ITB but they do not even know when it will be available, last time I checked.

If you were installing ITBs now then every time you changed part of your engine you would have to get them re-tuned and you would end up wasting a lot of money.

why not have a hood scoop or something to get a "cold" ram air style insetead of hot ambient air from the engine bay?

ITB's should be the last mod you do to your car, basically...After EVERYTHING else is done to your motor.
