Default Freeway Revs

When I first bought my SH, going on the freeway at 75mph @ around 3K RPM but now it is around 4K RPM. It is a part of my vivid imagination or could this really happen?

And I am finally going to fix and tune up my car, I want power on my heavy azz Lude. I want carbon fiber HKS double exhaust, a mid-size turbo, and the basics. Is that a good way to start out my power trip adventure?

sounds to me like your clutch is shot, a turbo will just help to kill your clutch.

Thats why my car is at 4k at 80. Seemed high to me. My tach is off a little though. After I change it to a Exedy I guess I will find out.

what you mean slipping and how does that increasing the revs at 80mph?? And if i just leave it for a while would that do any permanent damage?

It's been a few months since I've driven on the highway, but I notice that the revs are always over 3K at highway speeds in 5th. Going at around 75mph, I think 4K is around right. The clutch might slip when it is engaging and getting up to the same speed as the flywheel, but I think once it's speed matches I don't think it can "slip". You can tell if your clutch is slipping if you can quickly accelerate and shift up to 5th gear and you notice that the car is not going as fast as the engine is reving (you'll hear it and feel it).

Old *** thread (so nobody will say search) but I just got my car a few weeks ago and wanted to bring this up again. Im worried because for my car to maintain freeway speeds, the car has to be constantly at around 4,000rpm's. Ain't this bad?? specially for longer drives? Plus it kills a lot of gas too. I feel like we need a 6th gear or something. This is my first manual tranny car and all the other cars/vans I've driven only need to be at around 2,500rpm's to maintain the same kind of speed.

So all you guys experience this too?

I thought it was just me cuz my car has small *** wheels, 215/45/zr16...I compared it to other people's stock wheels and my over all wheel diameter is smaller by a lot. BTW when I said 80mph, speedo actually read higher but I figured with smaller wheels IM actually going slower so I said 80pmh (actually read 85ish +)

im at 4K at 80mph as well.

If you wanna save gas, drive the speed limit. 65 should put you right about 3K, and net you better gas mileage. I just like to go fast. I commute 30 mins to work everday, and i know all the good turns so i down shift and mash on through em. I took the ramp where the 55 splits into the 22 at like 95, whewwww, feel that jun m4d v3tak r0ar

haha my engine roars too, but with no vtec, just raw power
i'm 65mph @ 3k and 81mph at 4k rpm
I cruise my 30 minutes to work each day (when traffic allows) right at 3.5k rpm

Damn we can all use a 6th gear badly, but IM glad to hear that its normal to be going 80mph@4,000ish rpms. Everything seems all good then. Aright koo, thanks everyone. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't the only one.

One last thing, go speed limit at 65, that's hella slow but I do that sometimes just to let the engine rev less. Plus I might move down south near LA this winter for school which is a long *** drive from where IM from. That's the only thing that im really worried about cuz staying at 4,000rpms for hours seems scary?
