should i put a block guard?
We'll I just pulled out my motor to put in my new one. just stock gsr block with b16 head. Since the head and block are not put together yet, should i add a block guard? What blockguard do you guys recommend?

A properly installed blockguard that is made to fit will do the trick.
There are far more horror stories about blockguards than there are success stories. People that hammer them in tend to have problems very quickly.
When you hammer in a blockguard, it distorts the sleeves. The only way you can correct for this is to bore and hone the block to get the cylinders perfectly round. People who use them with success either have one that they grind on so that it is an EXACT match to their block or they weld it in and then bore-n-hone.
They are cheap up front, but there is a lot of hidden costs in doing a blockguard properly.

Do not get a blockguard. Why? well because its a complete waste of money. It does not guard your block...it guards the outer top of your cylinders (useless) and restricts coolant flow between the cylinder head and water jackets.

I've have heard first hand from people who use them and say they work.
Anybody had problems that has acutally used them?
I'm using one. I got it for free though. And I'm not boosted yet. Cooling is fine.

i have a nuformz blockguard for my turbo d16y8 and i've had it for over a year. no cooling problems caused yet. i don't know how much it helps with protecting the block, because i've only boosted to about 9psi. i got stock internals and have overboosted to 14psi a few times, but nothing's happened. didn't hammer it in either...uh not sure what else you want to know...

I got one and I run the dogshit out of my car!
I haven't had a bit of trouble. I guess I did get the temp gauge to jump a little back in July...but it was really hot and I was holding I think 10psi at around 130mph for a little longer than I should've. I'm sure if done correctly and treated correctly it will perform correctly. Hope this helps.

one of my buddies uses a str blockguard on his built b18c...its built for turbo but doesnt have a turbo on it yet though
but anyways, he hasnt had any cooling problems, everything seems to be working great so far without boost, and hes got over 2000 miles on it.

im boosting around 9psi right now on a b18b with a built bottom end. i have had no cooling issues with it, it was hammered in and works great as far as im concerned, if you are planning on keeping the pistons and rods stock, then i wouldnt even bother, the rods will break before the cylinder walls will for sure. so if you are spending alot of money on your block, put a block guard in, really, its not going to hurt.
