Cam Gear install gone bad!..HELP!
STR cam gear going into a d16z6.
here's the problem...when i took off the timing belt i only marked the top of the belt..i didn't mark it at the crank...
to me...but anyways...i tightened everything else with the new cam gear...and now my car boggs like a mother...i know my timing is WAY OFF...and im off a few teeth...how EXACTLY do i fix this problem? how do i move the belt to its proper position?
this is stressin me out.....

Set the cam gear to zero and treat it like a stock cam. Your Helms should have an install procedure, or you could check out the valve adusting procedure to see where things should be. This is for the DOHC, but you should be able to see what I mean.

rotate your crank until the red mark on the crank pulley is in the timing "arrow" on the t-belt cover. This is TDC for the #1 and 3 cylinders. Then, you should be able to tell where your cam is off. If it is, you'll need to loosen the tensioner, slide off belt, and rotate cam until it's TDC as well. Keep timing gear set at 0 for installment.
well hopefully your not off on the timing belt, but you could have your ignition timing off, which was my case.. my d16y8 was a total dog, but then used a tdigital timing light and realized i was at 8 BTDC, then just adjusted to 18 it and its back to normal plus. as long as u didnt move the cam or crank in between the time of removing the old belt and pulley and putting on the new cam gear and belt. u woulda had to move the cam while putting on the new gear to be off a few teeth with the new belt. hopefully u dont have to go thru and tear the timing covers back off and and re-time your motor but if u are off your gonna have to re-do it, now with your new cam gear, did u rip off the piece behind the oem cam gear, that had the cam timing mark, cuz most aftermarket gears you have to remove that. what id do is rip it back apart put the cam timing pointer piece back on then the factory pulley back on and line it up, then put the new pulley on and new belt and wallah retimed timing belt and it should be all good, but you really should retime ur ignition timing, because that changes with the cam. so retime you ignition timing , if its still a dog, u musta skipped a tooth, and id tear it down ASAP, cuz if ur off like 2 teeth u may be getting close to valve-piston contact. hope this helps, but
1st check ignition timing... if still messed up
2nd tear apart and retime.
