Default Brake Lights - Not Working

Hey guys, I have a 2000 honda civic dx - sohc. I just noticed that the brake light where you step on the brake pedal is not working on the left side but on the right side it is. I've been buying the bulbs off of amazon and it seems to be like they have the bigger ones, not the white one where you reverse. I want the red one, I guess the tail light? The small bulb that one is like a baby bulb, I can't find it anywhere at all. But, I was wondering if I can't find it, should I just replace the left side of the tail light? I found one on ebay I could just install it like that... This is so frustrating... Thanks.

Whatever happened to walking into your local auto parts store and holding up the bulb that you need so the sales person can match it up ? Just a thought...

People are lazy now

You need a double filament bulb dude. If you don't know what that is, take @JRCivic1 advice and walk into a store.

The factory bulb IS clear and is a dual filament (part number is 3157 I believe). I am not sure what you are looking for... unless you have clear tail light housings or something, you don't need red ones... the lens is red.

first thing to do here is QUIT BUYING CRAP OFF AMAZON. I just went thru the same thing on my dads car with cheap led bulbs, he swore that a mouse ate his wiring because the bulb was only a month old. nope, it was a cheap led. Unless it says Sylvania on the wrapper it is junk. Swap the good side into the bad side, if it works then you know its the bulb. Go to the parts shop with said bad bulb and just get a replacement. Yes I know money is tight right now for everyone, but buy it once and cry once. buy the crap at half price and you get to do it twice

This is what I'm talking about. I just got the order from ebay and it was the same car but the bulbs were like the normal one, it fits in their car but not mine wtf... this is so confusing... plus if I were to replace the outler layer of the housing, the wires are cut off so it wouldn't even work. Idk what to do at this point...

That is a 194 bulb. Does the socket that your current bulb plugs into separate from the wiring/base ? Do you have original tail lights or are they aftermarket ? Does any of the wiring and/or sockets appear to be modified ?

Okay so I replaced the bulb, I saw on the original it's a 168 bulb but I think the 194 would still work. Now, not sure if it's the bulb itself cause the new one works on the other one but the left one is still the same problem. Could it be the holder of the bulb or the wires?

So, I found out my old bulbs worked on my right braking light. 168 and 194 works on my right side. Even when I replace the housing/holder of the bulb to my left side one it doesn't work. I replaced the old bulb of 168 to 194 and still doesn't work.

I think I need to change the wires.

Time to get out the voltage meter. I would start at the bulb holder connections and follow the wires back. Good luck

So, you were looking at the wrong bulb socket this whole time ?

I spent 20 minutes looking for my glasses once. They were on my head.

No reason to defend the OP's honor here ysmb... I wasn't smashing on him. I was simply clarifying the solution for the next person who searches this issue. Clear and concise fixes are ALWAYS the best endings to any thread found here at H/T.
