D16y8 p28 questions
Bought a d16y8 for my 96 civic hatch, put a p28 and d15b7 dizzy. Car cranks, but no start. Injectors throw too much gas, and it drowns the car and I have to turn to push out gas. Using stock obd2 injectors, and they plug right in. Got it chipped. Doesn’t have plug for crank sensor by the crank pulley, but I got an adapter that plugs into the obd1 dizzy which should theoretically work as a crank sensor. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas on what I could do to fix the issue?
Are you using Y8 or Y7 fuel injectors ? Is your ECU conversion harness correct ? Are your plug wires in the proper position/firing order ? When you say "Doesn’t have plug for crank sensor by the crank pulley", what EXACTLY do you mean ? A D16Y8 engine should have the plug on it and a '96 Civic engine harness should have a plug in the same area that connects to the engine. Fortunately, an OBD-1 P28 doesn't NEED (or even recognize) that sensor, so you don't have to worry about it at all. The three sensors that you need will all be found inside the distributor. Just curious... WHY aren't you using a Y8 distributor that plugs right into the engine harness ?

1992-95 OBD-1 and 1996-98 OBD-2 distributors are the SAME inside... only the plug style is different. The sensor you are referring to is a Crankshaft Fluctuation Sensor... which for OBD-2 "D" series engines, is in addition to the Crank Position Sensor that is found inside the distributor. The OBD-1 ECU only needs the three sensors inside the distributor (TDC, CKP, CYP) to run the engine properly. The OBD-2 ECU looks for FOUR sensors: (TDC, CKP, CYP, and CKF).
The distributor has nothing to do with fueling... only spark. If you are having trouble getting the engine to run, I would be looking at the garbage engine harness that you purchased. They are notoriously suspect.

If it was my car, I would have used the original '96 hatch engine harness and modified it to fit the replacement engine. If you don't have the original engine harness, one from a '96-98 Civic with the same trim level (CX, DX, LX) works as well. Moving a few wires, lengthening a couple of plugs, and swapping a clip or two is really no big deal.
