2009 Accord Limp Mode
I have 2009 Accord 2.4L that's in limp mode. I haven't checked codes yet. Last week I went to the store and everything was fine, it was 20F and windy though. I went to return and it took a long time to start, it seemed like it cranked for a long time but it started. The engine light popped on and a AVS/ACC/ABS light. I drove it home and it was surging above 3000 rpm. I thought the VTec solenoid screen became clogged and kicked the codes. I've seen that before on early model accords and replaced the VTec actuator/screen to fix. I reset the codes by unhooking the battery. The AVS/ACC/ABS light turned off but the engine light stays on. The car doesn't go above 2500/3000 rpm now, so it's in limp mode. I have a replacement starter from 2 years ago and have read that this might cause the issue with it being in limp mode. I will have to drive the car to Autozone in limp mode to check codes. Is it okay to drive in limp mod?. I was also thinking about buying a code reader from Amazon. Which is a good one to get? Thanks
Update -changed oil, tried reset by disconnecting battery, but it still had the flashing engine light after restart. I bought a code reader. Code 0301,0302,0300 - misfiring cylinders, I tired clearing codes, but they came back right away. I checked coil and cleaned injectors; cleared codes, but the flashing engine light came on again and hade same codes. I read posts about issues using a replacement starter causing these same codes to pop up. I put in a replacement starter 2 years ago. The suggestion was to relearn the curve for the crank sensor. Well, you need a special scan tool for $180 or have a service place do it for $350.I bought the Foxwell NT510 for Honda and went through the process to relearn the crank sensor curve. I had to do it a few times, but it finally killed the LIMP mode issue. I've been driving the car for the past 4 weeks with no issues. I thought I'd update the thread just in case someone needs some help with same issue.
Does it have an aftermarket starter?
I had an issue with the same presentation. I got codes P0339, P0300, P0301, P0302. It had an aftermarket starter in it.
Relearning the crankshaft position sensor with the appropriate scan tool worked as a band-aid fix. Sometimes it would work for a weeks, sometimes just for a few days.
I eventually swapped the starter with an OEM starter and it completely resolved the issue.

Yes, replacement starter. It's starting to kick codes again, but not going in limp mode. Car runs a little funny, but very drivable. I guess it's time to get a OEM starter or another replacement and gamble on 2-3 more years before issues show again.
