Default High RPM on Start - 2009 Honda CR-V

Hi all,

I’m experiencing a high RPM issue with my 2009 Honda CR-V, and I’m hoping someone here might have some advice.

Issue:
When I start the car, the RPMs shoot up to around 1400 and then slowly decrease to the normal range of 650-700 RPM over the span of about 5 minutes. Once the car is warmed up, everything seems fine, and I don't experience any further RPM issues while driving.

What I’ve done so far:
  • Transmission Solenoids Replacement: About 9 months ago, I replaced the 2nd and 3rd gear solenoids on the transmission to fix a blinking "D" issue. To do this, I had to remove the airbox, which I’ve reinstalled carefully multiple times. The high RPM issue might have started around this time, but I’m not sure.
  • Starter Replacement and Throttle Body Cleaning: More recently, I replaced the starter, which required me to remove the airbox, air intake, and throttle body. While the throttle body was out, I cleaned it without moving the flap and performed a TPS relearn procedure using a scan tool. The procedure takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. After the relearn proceedure, it stays normal for about 2-3 starts, but then goes back to 1400 RPM after that. However, the RPM remains steady once the engine is warm.
  • Gasket Replacements: I’ve also replaced both the throttle body gasket and the intake manifold gasket during this process to rule out any leaks from worn gaskets.
Additional Info:
  • The car sometimes idles rough when cold, but it stabilizes after warming up.
  • I’ve double-checked the connections on the airbox, throttle body, and intake manifold.
