Default '03 HCHybrid car starts then slowly dies

Hello!

As stated, I have a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid. Recently needed a smog check but car smelled like gas. Figured out there was a small leak due to a crack in the corner of the fuel pump. Grabbed a replacement from a Pick n Pull. Swapped out fuel pump.

E Z P Z.

Except. The pump doesn't seem to prime? Since the replacement, the car will start then slowly die. When its performance worked perfectly before. I'll keep cranking basically 'till the battery dies then I recharge the battery.

After all these failed attempts I replaced the Pump relay and the fuse. Same issue. I even swapped back the old fuel pump (cause it worked initially) and this problem persists. Doesn't make sense to me since all i changed was the fuel pump, pump relay, and relay fuse. So how the heck could that cause any other issues? Right now I put the replacement fuel pump back in and can't wrap my head around the problem. Any ideas? Also, if anyone know how to bench test the fuel pump, I would love to try that option too. Thanks!
