Default 2012 Accord - Oil Filter Housing Confusion

Good Morning Everyone,

The last time I got an oil change, the shop folks told me that I would need to have the oil filter housing changed the next time around - they estimated about $450 for this installed, gulp.

I know an ASE master mechanic who works on his own, so I'm hoping that someone can please direct me to the right part I'll need to get for him?

Related to that, are there different levels of quality on a filter housing, a la is it important to get the OEM part on something like this?

This is a plain jane 2012 Accord LX, nothing complicated.

Thanks in advance!

For a 4 cylinder: Honda Part No.: 15310-R40-A00 There appears to be aftermarket parts available that costs less than OEM.

It is not a very difficult job.

Thanks a bunch for that.

True it doesn't look too difficult, though I'm definitely someone who likes to leave it up to the pros.

I only stated it is not very difficult, so you can get a sense if any mechanic or shop might be trying to overcharge for the service if you already know the price of the part too.

The part looks to be around $135, so that would be $315 on labor. From what you're describing, 3 hours of labor sounds a bit off for sure.

Is this something where it's a good idea to go with an OEM part, like on a starter/alternator, etc., or does it not make much difference in this case?

I really have no idea if this is something where the quality can vary wildly, but the price definitely does when it's OEM.

Me, personally, I would go with an OEM part since it is related to engine lubrication, etc. I have the same generation Accord and if it ever needed replacement, I would go OEM.

I am actually surprised by how many aftermarket sellers there are for that particular part.

It is your choice though.

That's a good point. Engine lubrication isn't anything to play around with. Thanks for the advice.
