Default miss under load/vtec (i am stupid)

so b16, in a fiat x19. blah blah blah. I keep running into this issue. the last 2 times what solved it was replacing the Dizzy, then altering the deadtimes of the injectors. Looking at the logs I was really running lean when it was missing. so I started to relook at the injectors, thinking maybe they are dirty. doing more looking I was thinking of just replacing them. I have the resistor box so I figured (key phrase leading to stupidity) I have low impedance injectors. as I was googling around I found a few posts that noted high impedance injectors will work off of the resistor box but can cause odd issues. Hmmm.. so with multimeter in hand out I go tot he garage. all 4 injectors run from 8.3 to 9.2 ohms. so much for low impedance! this would also explain why adjusting the dead times seemed to help as the signal wasnt strong enough to open them as fast. new high impedance injectors are on order and I am making the resistance box bypass. hopefully this will work. I have less than 500 miles since this transplant was done over 5 years ago and I would really like to get to enjoying it on a normal basis.

Order a set of fuel injectors from a reputable source (that comes with injector data - like Dead Times), put that information into your calibration, and then go TUNE the car. Changing Dead Times alters everything in the tune... doing this arbitrarily is not a solution. Get the engine tuned... and FINALLY go and enjoy it !!!

One more thing: No OE Honda fuel injectors have a resistance value of between 8 and 9 ohm... so I don't know what brand fuel injectors that you actually have... but they wouldn't be stock ones. Factory low impedance fuel injectors typically OHM out between 2.3 and 2.7 OHM... factory high impedance fuel injectors typically measure between 12.2 and 12.6 OHM.

I was wondering about that. this is from the PO from when I bought it eons ago. it was one of those other mistakes I made. I bought it from a running ex before I did the swap in my fiat so it was one of those "it runs it must be right" mistakes. Thanks for the input, validated what I wasnt sure of. I actually measured a few times thinking I must be off.

interesting, looking further I found this https://jameshalderman.com/wp-conten...ance_Table.pdf and only shows a few (very few) GM products in that ohm range. cant wait to take them out and see if I can find a number on them

main issue is a miss as soon as it hits vtec. if I disable vtec I can drive it all day long any RPM, any load. turn vtec back on and it misses. each time I "fix" (and I use that term very loosely) it works great for about 50 or so miles. Also keep in mind this is not my daily. so the past 5 years I have maybe put 500 miles on it driving to Cars and coffee and groceries etc. the "fixes" I have done were replaced the coil, replaced the dizzy, replaced it again (I know I shouldnt have went with Autozone the first time), vtec screen, moved the fuel pump with new tank (was acting with more of a pull, because that is what the stock fuel tank had to do. the new tank has connections on the bottom so I moved the pump to be closer), new plugs and wires, adjusted dead times. this adjustment lasted the longest I would say over 150 miles. Hondata forums helped me out with the dead times. which now thinking, I had in there stock injector deadtimes but it seems they probably are not stock
